Conditions
Just as with the web app, anyone looking to use the WhatsApp desktop version will require a smartphone with WhatsApp installed and activated on it. The PC version then displays the message history from the mobile device.
Important: the smartphone should be connected to Wi-Fi whenever possible, in order to avoid putting an unnecessary and expensive strain on your mobile data allowance. Throughout the WhatsApp desktop use, the mobile device must remain connected via the internet.
Download
The WhatsApp desktop messenger can be downloaded for free from the official WhatsApp website.
The official system requirements are Windows 8 and OS X 10.9 Mavericks, but tests have proven the program functions without a problem on Windows 7 as well.
Scan the QR code
After downloading, installing, and starting the tool, you’ll be asked to scan a QR code with your native app. You don’t need to install a separate scanner; simply open the WhatsApp app on your smartphone and select ‘Menu’ and then ‘WhatsApp Web’ – the built-in scanner will open for you to scan the QR code on the desktop.
Synchronize and start
After you’ve scanned the desktop QR code, synchronization between the smartphone and the PC should start automatically. Within a few moments, all current chats should be displayed on the desktop app, and almost all features that you can use on the smartphone app version are available.
