Information on account ownership changes

An IONOS contract can be transferred to another person or company using a form. This article informs you about the necessary steps.
General information
If the contractual relationship is taken over, the GTC agreed when the original contract was concluded shall continue to apply.
The transfer of the contractual relationship takes place with all rights and obligations.
The transfer of ownership is an additional service subject to a charge, which is invoiced according to the current IONOS price list. It is invoiced to the new contract holder and is only charged once per customer number.
Special case: Death of the previous contract holder
A transfer is also possible if the previous contractual partner is deceased. In this case, additional documents are required:
- Death certificate
- Certificate of inheritance
- Written consent of all heirs (in the case of joint heirs)
You can attach a copy or scan (PDF) of these documents to the other documents.
Invoices
Make sure that you, as the transferring contract holder, have all the necessary invoices and download them from the IONOS account if required.
Invoices that have already been created cannot be changed retrospectively.
No final invoice will be issued. You should therefore check in advance whether there are any outstanding receivables and, if necessary, clarify with the new contract holder who will take them over.
Domains
Check your domains and determine which domains are to be transferred to the new domain owner. Move the domains that you do not want to transfer to another contract with a different customer number. Further information can be found in the Help Center article "Transferring a domain to another IONOS account".
The domain contact details are not changed when the customer number is transferred to another person or company. You can change the domain contact details after registration in the IONOS account in the Domains & SSL product category. Further information on changing the contact data can be found in the Help Center article "Editing domain contact details".
If the domain contact details are changed, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) requires a validity check of the new e-mail address. The email with the verification link is sent to the email address stored in IONOS account. Further information can be found in the Help Center article "ICANN email verification".
After changing the domain ownership, you must inform the relevant domain registry. A domain registry is the organization responsible for the administration and allocation of domain names under a specific top-level domain (TLD). These changes may be associated with costs.
Payment methods
Ongoing costs are collected from the payment method stored in the IONOS account. You should therefore update the payment method in your IONOS account before submitting the form to transfer ownership. The Help Center article "Payment methods" explains how.
Open and complete the transfer form
Open the Account Change Request form.
Complete the form on screen.
Print out the completed form. A signature is required from both you and the new holder.
Scan all documents and send them to the email address process@ionos.com.
Existing content
Any existing websites of affected domains become the responsibility of the new contract holder with the transfer of ownership. As the transferring contract holder, delete any unnecessary content from the web space.
Existing email addresses and emails remaining in the mailbox are transferred to the new contract holder's area of responsibility with the transfer of ownership. As the transferring contract holder, delete any nonessential existing email accounts.
The previous history of customer correspondence is retained after the change of owner. This cannot be deleted.
