For Web Hosting packages

To protect your website with an SSL certificate, you only need to set up the SSL certificate in your IONOS account for the desired domain. As part of the setup process, the certificate will be issued to this domain and automatically installed in your webspace.

Requirements
  • Your domain and the website you want to secure are in the same hosting package.
  • Your domain is already set up and active.

Guided Steps

  • Log in to IONOS here. You will be automatically redirected to the overview of your SSL certificates.
  • If you have multiple contracts, select the desired contract.
  • Click the gear icon to the right of your SSL certificate and select the Set up SSL Certificate option.
If you have multiple contracts, you can limit the overview to a specific contract by setting the desired contract in the upper-right corner.
  • In the tile related to your SSL certificate, click Activate Now.
If you still have multiple unused certificates in the same contract, this step is omitted and you will be taken directly to the setup page.
  • Under Domain Assignment, select the domain (or subdomain) to which you want the SSL certificate to be issued.
  • Optional: You can change the intended use if necessary. For example, if you need the certificate files for a manual installation, select the "Use for your own server" setting. However, since our system automatically selects the default setting appropriate for your configuration, you usually do not need to change anything here.
  • Read the terms of use and confirm them by checking the box. Then, click  Set up SSL certificate.

The SSL certificate will now be set up. This may take a moment. Once setup is complete, a check mark will appear in the Status column (press F5 to refresh your browser).

Please Note

After you enable the SSL certificate, your website may still allow unencrypted connections. Therefore, you should ensure that SSL encryption is automatically enabled for all visitors. To do this, you need to configure your website to allow only secure SSL-secured connections. To do this, read the Switching your website to HTTPS section of the Securing your website with SSL article.
