For Dedicated Servers acquired before 28-10-2018 and Server Deals

The Windows Rescue System includes the Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset. This toolset includes programs for system repair and recovery. Below you will learn which programs are included in this toolset and which additional programs are available in the Windows Rescue System.

Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset

The Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset contains the following programs:

Registry Editor

You can use the Registry Editor to analyze, edit, and repair the registry of the operating system.

Please Note

Changes to the registry require advanced knowledge of the operating system. Incorrect registry entries can lead to data loss. Therefore, before using the Registry Editor, make sure that a backup has been made of the hard disk or SSD in question.

Locksmith

Locksmith allows you to reset the password of local Microsoft Windows user accounts. This also applies to the administrator account. You do not need to know the current password. However, the password you specify must meet the requirements defined by a local Group Policy object. This concerns among other things the length and complexity of the password.

Crash Analyzer

You can use the Crash Analyzer to determine the causes of a server failure. The program examines the memory dump file and identifies the driver that caused the server to fail. You can then disable the driver by using the Services and Drivers node in the Computer Management Tool.

The Crash Analyzer can also be used to check a server before creating an image. This allows you to identify driver problems and fix them before creating the image.

Further information regarding the Crash Analyzer can be found here.

File Restore

With File Restore, you can restore files that you have accidentally deleted. It is also possible to restore files that are on lost drives. You can also use File Restore to restore files to drives encrypted with BitLocker.

Disk Commander

With Disk Commander you can recover disk partitions, volumes, master boot records (MBR) and partition tables. This is possible by means of the following procedures:

  • Restoring the Master Boot Record

  • Recovery of one or more lost volumes

  • Restoring partition tables with Disk Commander Backup

  • Saving partition tables in Disk Commander Backup

Please Note

Before using this program, make sure that the hard disk or SSD in question has been backed up. Otherwise, there is a risk of data loss!

Disk Wipe

With Disk Wipe, you can erase all data on a disk or volume. This also applies to data that remains after reformatting a drive. You can choose between the following procedures for data deletion:

  • Single-Pass Overwrite

  • Four-Pass Overwrite (complies with the current standards of the US Department of Defense)
Please Note

If you use Disk Wipe to delete data from a disk or volume, you cannot recover it.

Computer Management

Computer Management is a collection of administration tools that can help you diagnose and troubleshoot errors that can prevent the Windows operating system from starting. You can use these programs to view system information and event logs, manage hard disks, list programs at startup, and manage services and drivers.

Explorer

With Explorer, you can browse your computer's file system and network shares to back up important data.

Solution Wizard

The Solution Wizard will help you select the best program if you are not familiar with the Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset. This program will ask you a series of questions and then, based on your answers, will suggest the Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset program that is best suited to solve your problem.

TCP/IP Config

You can configure TCP/IP manually using the TCP/IP-Config program.

Hotfix Uninstall

You can use Hotfix Uninstall to uninstall hotfixes or service packs.

Please Note

We recommend that you uninstall only one hotfix at a time.

Please Note

Programs that were installed or updated after you installed a hotfix might stop working correctly if you uninstall the hotfix. For this reason, make sure that a backup is created before using the Uninstall hotfix.

SFC Scan

You can use the SFC Scan Tool to scan and repair system files of the Microsoft Windows operating system. The program uses a repair wizard for this purpose. This repair wizard can automatically repair system files that are corrupted or missing. Alternatively, it can ask you which files to repair.

Search

You can use the Search program to search for files.

Defender

Windows Defender is security software that detects malware, rootkits, and unwanted software.

Other useful programs for diagnosis and troubleshooting

A number of other useful programs can be found in the X:\Apps directory. These are the following programs and tool collections:
