Disclaimer: The information provided by IONOS Inc on this website is offered only as a general information service to the public. Because each issue or situation is different and unique, each person should seek their own legal advice for that particular situation from competent legal counsel.

If the account is in the name of a decedent (e.g., the customer has died and the person claims to be acting on behalf of the deceased), the individual contacting IONOS must demonstrate the authority to act on behalf of the estate. Relatives are not authorized to act on behalf of the deceased unless they are officially entitled to do so. IONOS requires documentation typically in the form of a short certificate, which indicates that the individual is the executor of the deceased customer's will, or letters of administration, indicating that a court has given the individual the authority to administer the estate of a customer who died without a will.
