IONOS Inc. charges sales tax based on the products and services that are subject to such taxes in the jurisdiction of the customer. Products and services which are subject to sales tax may vary based on the province/territory and local tax regulations. Please reference your respective location's government website for more specific information.

In this article, we will provide information on sales tax rates, how to add your GST/HST registration number to your account, and sales tax exemption.

The respective sales taxes and rates of each of the provinces and territories in which IONOS is obligated to collect and submit sales tax are as follows:

Please Note

As of July 1, 2021, an amendment to Canadian sales tax regulations came into effect requiring certain non-resident suppliers (such as IONOS) to collect and remit GST (Goods and Services Tax) and the associated HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) on certain digital products and services to customers from across Canada that have not provided their GST/HST registration number to the supplier.

What this means for you

IONOS customers with business accounts who provide us with a valid GST/HST registration number will not have to be charged the additional GST/HST rates on their IONOS invoices. You can provide us with your GST/HST registration number right in your IONOS account by following the steps below. Additionally, you can use the GST/HST Registry Search to validate your GST/HST registration number.

Providing Your GST/HST Registration Number

  • Click on this link to go directly to the My Account section of your IONOS account.
  • Optional: You can also access the My Account section by clicking on the My Account tile in the menu bar or the My Account & Logout icon at the top-right corner.

  • Click Display in the Contact Details section.
  • Enter your registration number in the GST/HST Registration Number field.
  • Click Confirm to save the changes.

Sales Tax Exemption

Certain individuals and organizations may qualify for tax exemption if they meet the necessary regulatory requirements. If you believe you qualify for sales tax exemption, please email us proper documentation according to the respective tax provisions to verify your tax-exempt status.

Please note that CRA corporate income tax program numbers do not qualify for tax exemption and should not be submitted.
