Valid for: IONOS hosting contracts

This article explains what you need to bear in mind when switching hosting providers.

Domains you own

  • As a domain owner, you can transfer your domains to another provider at any time. However, if you want to terminate your contract, you must observe its minimum contract term.
  • If you terminate a contract without specifying what should happen to its domains, we will cancel the domain registrations once the contract has ended, and any connected websites or email will stop working. For .ca domains, the registry (CIRA) will place the domain into a 30-day Redemption Grace Period, during which you can still recover it for a fee. If you don't recover it during this time, it moves to pending delete and is placed on CIRA's To Be Released (TBR) list, where it can no longer be recovered. CIRA releases TBR domains to the public in a weekly session, so the domain typically becomes available for anyone to register within a few days to about a week and a half.
