This article walks you through transferring files to the webspace of your IONOS hosting package using WinSCP.

FTPS is the secure, encrypted version of the FTP file transfer protocol, and is supported by all Windows web hosting packages from IONOS.

Requirement

To be able to set up an FTPS connection, you need your FTPS connection data. The following article explains how to obtain these: Connection details for FTP/SFTP in IONOS web hosting.

  • Start WinSCP.

If WinSCP is not yet installed on your computer, you can download the WinSCP installation file from the following link: WinSCP download page
  • Select your saved FTP connection data, or enter it manually.
  • Click on Log in and wait until WinSCP has established a connection.
Name Your input
File protocol FTP
Encryption Recommended: Explicit SSL/TLS
Alternative: Implicit SSL/TLS
Host name Your personal server name, which is displayed in IONOS account (e.g. access123456789.webspace-data.io).
Port number 21 (for Explicit SSL/TLS)
990 (for Implicit SSL/TLS)
User name Your FTPS username

  • You can see the folder structure of your webspace in the right-hand window. Select a folder to which you would like to move the file.

  • Drag the file from the left-hand window to the right-hand window.

The file is now in your webspace.

If you want to download files from your webspace to your computer, simply do the opposite. Drag the files from the right-hand window to the left-hand window, e.g. to edit them locally.

Note

To ensure trouble-free operation, you should not set the number of simultaneous connections higher than 4 (default: 2).
