Spam at a glance

Spam refers to unsolicited emails that, for example, promote special offers and products. These emails are usually sent by unknown senders, but also by professional suppliers of goods and services.

Caution is advised when dealing with spam emails:

• Spam emails can contain attachments infected with viruses and malware – so you are advised never to open these attachments.
• Alternatively, these spam emails may also contain links to fake websites that download a virus or Trojan onto your hard drive as soon as you click the link. Therefore, under no circumstances should you click on links in emails from senders you do not know or that seem suspicious to you.
• Spam emails are particularly dangerous when they pretend to come from a reputable provider: cybercriminals are skilled at making fraudulent emails look like official ones.
