This article explains how to export data from WordPress. This data could then, for example, be used with another WordPress installation.
Export via WordPress Administration
- Log in to your IONOS account.
- Click on Menu > Websites & Stores in the title bar.
- Select the desired contract by clicking on the Open WordPress button on the corresponding tile.

To import this data into another WordPress installation:
- Log in to your IONOS account.
- Click on Menu > Websites & Stores in the title bar.
- Select the desired contract by clicking on the Open WordPress button on the corresponding tile.
- In WordPress Administration, click on Tools > Import data. From the import formats offered, select WordPress if you are using the XML file that you created earlier.
Export via backup plugins
Among the large range of WordPress plugins available, there are several backup solutions, such as UpdraftPlus, which are suitable for migration. The IONOS Digital Guide "The best WordPress backup plugins" gives you an overview.
Export via database and webspace tools
- WordPress uses a database to store its content. The Help Center article "Backing up MySQL/MariaDB databases with phpMyAdmin" explains the procedure.
- Program data from WordPress, its plugins and additional content, such as photos, are stored in your webspace. The Help Center article "Transferring files with FileZilla using SFTP" explains how to upload or download your webspace content.
