Valid for Managed Hosting for WordPress.
With Managed Hosting for WordPress, installations, and core, security, and selected software updates are carried out for you by professionals. Managed Hosting for WordPress is therefore ideal for beginners who do not want to spend time on such routine tasks.
With a standard WordPress, on the other hand, you have more control. Professionals and web designers therefore usually prefer standard WordPress. This article explains how to switch from an Managed Hosting for WordPress installation to a standard WordPress.

After the changeover, it is no longer possible to switch back to Managed Hosting for WordPress.
Carry out the switch

- In the title bar, click on Menu > Websites & Shops.
Optional: If you have several website projects, select the corresponding contract. The overview page for created websites is displayed. - Click on Manage website on the tile of your website.
- Under the Edit website link, click Change installation type.
- A notice is provided to warn you that you will be responsible for updates and security after the change. Click Continue.
For security purposes, the admin credentials are reset when you change the WordPress installation type. Enter new credentials on the forms supplied and click on Manage WordPress yourself.
The installation type will now be changed.
After the move
After moving from Managed Hosting for WordPress to a standard WordPress, you will need to carry out some maintenance activities. The following sections will inform you about what needs to be considered.
Update core, themes, plugins, and translations
The update behaviour of a standard WordPress version is set in the WordPress administration under Updates. Plugins, themes and translations that can be updated are also displayed in the same place.
You can activate or deactivate automatic plugin updates under Plugins > Installed Plugins . To do this, click on the corresponding entry in the Automatic Updates column in the plugin overview.
Update PHP version
WordPress requires the PHP programming language for operation, which is constantly being improved and expanded. For the highest possible security and performance, it is therefore highly recommended to always switch to the latest PHP version. The Help Center article "Displaying or changing the active PHP version" explains the process.
Webspace and database backup
The data required for the operation of WordPress is stored in your webspace and a database. The Help Center article "Creating regular backups" provides information on how to back up your webspace and database.
