Valid for MyWebsite Creator.

Meta (Facebook) has discontinued support for the Like button and the comment widget for external websites at the beginning of February 2026. This article informs you about what you need to consider and, if necessary, change in your MyWebsite Creator project.

Note

The deactivation of the Like button and comment widget was determined by Meta (Facebook). IONOS has no influence on this decision and cannot change it.

Effects on your website

Switching off the Facebook widget has no effect on the operation of your MyWebsite Creator website. It will remain online and there will be no error messages.

In the MyWebsite Creator editor, a placeholder is displayed instead of the Facebook widget.

Visitors to your website will also no longer see the Facebook widgets. Please note that the placeholders used may result in display errors in the form of larger empty spaces. You can find out how to delete the placeholders in the next section.

Delete placeholder (widget)

  • Log in to your IONOS account.
  • Click on Menu > Websites & Stores in the title bar.
  • Open the desired MyWebsite Creator project.
  • In the MyWebsite Creator editor, remove the Facebook Like and Facebook Comments widgets used by selecting and deleting the placeholder.
  • Optional: Add a Facebook Share button using an HTML widget, as this will continue to be available. Website visitors will still be able to share your content on Facebook.
  • Click on Republish to make the changes visible to visitors.
