Valid for MyWebsite Now.

The heading structure of your website helps web browsers and screen readers to understand how the content is organized and displayed. You create the heading structure of your website by assigning heading types (H1-H6). This article explains how to use headings in your MyWebsite Now project to fulfill this requirement of the German Accessibility Improvement Act (BFSG).

Recommendations for headings and accessibility

  • Create headings according to meaning, not appearance.

  • Use only one H1 heading per page. It is the most important heading and describes the entire page content
  • Individual paragraph headings following the H1 heading should each have a subordinate H2 heading type. Further headings within these paragraphs are then given the type H3. If necessary, follow this logic with heading types H4, H5 and H6.

  • Do not skip a heading level, e.g. from H3 to H5.

  • Avoid using two headings directly after each other.

Set heading levels in MyWebsite Now

  • Open the MyWebsite Now editor as described in the Help Center article "Opening the MyWebsite Now editor".

  • Click on Content in the menu bar of the MyWebsite Now editor.

  • Move your mouse over the detail area and click on a heading. A toolbar is displayed.

  • Click on Heading type (h1) in the toolbar. A list box opens with the possible labelling options from H1 to H6.

  • Select a heading level. The change takes effect immediately.
